Disciplinary Literacy in STEM: A Functional Approach

This study explores disciplinary literacy instruction integrated within an elementary engineering unit in urban classroom. A multidisciplinary team of university and educators classroom teachers served as the research for this case study. social semiotic language theory (systemic functional linguistics) a framework mechanistic reasoning informed analysis discourse student writing. The illustrates how flexible set choices functioned to support students’ evolving part design process.
